I've had a couple of Slashdot threads sitting in their own tabs for almost a week while I found time to work through them, one on Amazon's Kindle and the other on surfer Garrett Lisi's proposal for a simple ToE.

Way deep in the latter, epine was provoked into posting a very interesting analysis on the controversy that surrounds string theory's problem with testability, making explicit reference to "the expressive power of the available formalisms", a concept I have not previously seen described like that but which I immediately found meaningful and applicable.

But he says it much better than I could hope to, so go read it:
